We had a big lawn in our house in Lko (or so it seemed when we were that small!). Me and my brother used to play cricket everyday there. And our biggest challenge everyday used to be to make the stumps stand erect! Ground was hard and we were small boys then, so it used to be big struggle all the time. So one fine day, we both got an ingenious idea that we should dig the ground real deep and pour water in the hole and cover it up - that way the upper layer of mud would become soft forever! So we started digging - used the sharp end of the stumps itself to dig. We dug and dug and then dug more and then poured water. And then dug more and more. After a while we realized the water was not seeping through the ground and was staying in the hole. Now even though we were small, we knew this was not normal behavior! Water should seep into the mud and make it soft, right! 1st thought that crossed my mind was - "Oh shit, I did something wrong, Mum is gonna give us a thrashing tonight! How to cover this mess up now!!" Anyway, after much discussion, we came to the conclusion that the reason water is not going away is coz we have dug so deep that we have reached water levels under the ground and the water is now leaking up into our lawn :D:D:D. So we quickly covered the hole again with all the mud and stomped on top of it, to make sure water doesnt actually fountain out of the hole! We didn't play cricket for next couple of days just to give the gound time to get back to normal state and even after that, we changed the side where we would bat from - no more digged at that end! :))
Oh, btw, did I mention, the 'big-hole' was less than 10 inches deep :D.
