Banning samurai swords

(Click on the heading above or here for the article)
Those incidents occured in 2000 and earlier - why they banning the Japanese sword now!
And how are they going to determine if a valuable sword would or would not be used for a crime... - its been rightly put in the 'Oddly Enough' section of Reuters.

Google vs Microsoft!

(Click on the heading above or here for the article.)
Cloud Computing - thats a wonderful idea! Will be awesome when finally implemented :)
Read more about it here.
Point raised in the article is quite valid - 1.6 million users of Google Docs dont all that much compete - statistics wise - with 500 million users of MS Office! :). But I am sure lot more ppl, esp students are following the new product excitedly and that number will nowhere but up.

Brainbashers!!

Came across this site (Brainbashers) - from my Gmail RSS feed.
Try this one from their Daily Puzzle -
Using a tap, a three gallon container and a five gallon container, can you measure exactly 4 gallons, you may empty the containers down the drain???

For answers - go to their website! :)

My answer was different from the websites, but it was a step longer :(.

I once sent a mail by mistake to someone whose info I was trying to get out of Outlook directory!! Thankfully, there were 2 ppl with same 1st name and I happen to send to the one who had quit the company a while back and so was a dead email account :). Close call eh ;)

Lko times...contd...contd

We had a big lawn in our house in Lko (or so it seemed when we were that small!). Me and my brother used to play cricket everyday there. And our biggest challenge everyday used to be to make the stumps stand erect! Ground was hard and we were small boys then, so it used to be big struggle all the time. So one fine day, we both got an ingenious idea that we should dig the ground real deep and pour water in the hole and cover it up - that way the upper layer of mud would become soft forever! So we started digging - used the sharp end of the stumps itself to dig. We dug and dug and then dug more and then poured water. And then dug more and more. After a while we realized the water was not seeping through the ground and was staying in the hole. Now even though we were small, we knew this was not normal behavior! Water should seep into the mud and make it soft, right! 1st thought that crossed my mind was - "Oh shit, I did something wrong, Mum is gonna give us a thrashing tonight! How to cover this mess up now!!" Anyway, after much discussion, we came to the conclusion that the reason water is not going away is coz we have dug so deep that we have reached water levels under the ground and the water is now leaking up into our lawn :D:D:D. So we quickly covered the hole again with all the mud and stomped on top of it, to make sure water doesnt actually fountain out of the hole! We didn't play cricket for next couple of days just to give the gound time to get back to normal state and even after that, we changed the side where we would bat from - no more digged at that end! :))
Oh, btw, did I mention, the 'big-hole' was less than 10 inches deep :D.

Lko times...contd

There was this one time in City Montessari School - Std 2 our english teacher was having a question/answer session after a lesson. So the lesson had something about 2 boys - one of them knew how to read and the other didnt. The unpadh boy got a letter in the mail, but wasnt sure if he could share the content with someone else. So he asked the educated boy as to what should be done. The educated one said that he would close his ears and read the letter to the unpadh boy, so that way he (educated boy) wouldn't know what the content of the letter were, since he didn't hear it!
Now, the teacher asked us all if the educated boy would really not know what he read if he had his ears closed?? Well, there were 3 ppl in the class who said that he wouldn't! Your's truly was one of them :))) Yaa, well the dumb trait has been there since from quite an early age ! ;)

Lko times!

Ok, me is going to jot down anything and everything I can remember about my life there... :). This will be fun!

1. I used to have a cycle - a red one, dont rem which model...
2. My frnds in school (Seventh Day Adventist High School, Indira Nagar, Lko) - Rupak Kumar Roy (bugger was my best frnd there), Anurag Singh Rawat (best kho-kho player!)...Vijay and his twin brother - cant rem other fellow's name...Vidisha (my Raakhi sister), Sangeeta (the tall one), Shweta (I rem there were 4 of them in my class!)...but I know which one I remember most - the one with light brown eyes... :), there was another fat fellow who used to hang out with me and Rupak - cant get his name or face now...
3. I had once gone to Rupak's house and we all had played cricket in his lawn. Then Papa had come and picked us up...
4. Shweta had once come to my house to return my notebook. I remember this coz she had actually bound my torn notebook when she retuned it!!
5. A gali ka kutta had once started chasing me when I was learning to ride cycle and though it was a very small dog, I was shit scared and praying tht I shouldn't fall off the cycle and be eaten by the beast lol !

When You Love Someone

When you love someone - youll do anything
Youll do all the crazy things that you cant explain
Youll shoot the moon - put out the sun
When you love someone

Youll deny the truth - believe a lie
Therell be times that youll believe you can really fly
But your lonely nights - have just begun
When you love someone

When you love someone - youll feel it deep inside
And nothin else can ever change your mind
When you want someone - when you need someone
When you love someone...

When you love someone - youll sacrifice
Youd give it everything you got and you wont think twice
Youd risk it all - no matter what may come
When you love someone
Youll shoot the moon - put out the sun
When you love someone

- Bryan Adams.

I was engrossed in some boring article I was reading online on the plight of Indian cricket, with my ITunes running in the background as usual in shuffle mode. And then this song started with the flute or some similar instrument and in less than 5 seconds took me out of this hot room to a beautiful valley with spring colors all around and plush green grass and butterflies...but all too soon I realised I was alone there...

When you love someone... the last time it happened, it was so soo long ago that now all I have is vague memories :)
You'll do all the crazy things that you cant explain - and think about later and laugh it out... :)

You'll deny the truth - belive a lie ... u bet...

But your lonely nights - have just begun ... how I long for them again...

When you love someone - you'll feel it deep inside . .. very deep inside...

And nothing else can ever change your mind
When you want someone - when you need someone
When you love someone....
I know... :)

When you love someone - you'll sacrifice ... isn't this wait a sacrifice itself...

I have been listening to this song on repeat for the last 20 min now :) Ahh...why did it have to play in the 1st place itself - unnecessary torture...but then again...I think it was pleasant.

Halliburton going East!!

This was my article of the day - An American company making Dubai its' headquarters!

I wonder if they will move all employees out of US into Dxb or will they hire locals as a majority - esp given the 'Nationalization' drive of the Emirates!

What to post ???!!!

I want to be a regular at posting stuff on my blog as well! But I find it hard to find stuff to write about everyday...so what I have decided is I will try to post a single news article everyday that I think is the most catchy! It may not be the most important news of the day, may not be the funniest or political or everything, but something that stands out!
Lets see - with these other changes happening in my life, lets give this blog a try too :).

So today's article - I think is the article on astronaut Nowak - she got fired from NASA today. Article says its the 1st time in NASA's history they have fired one.

Mall Meetings

I was in a shopping mall the other day with a frnd and I happened to twice bump into ppl I knew. On the 1st occasion it was just casual hi wi while on the 2nd I was trying to avoid the person! 2 different responses to very similar situations! Now being a tester and what not, I got thinking - what are the differnt possible ways a chance meeting like this could take (actually I guess the "thinking" part had more to do with my being bored in that place, having just accompanied a frnd who was actually shopping, than being a tester ;) ).
Anyway, here is my take on the case -

Scenario1: I meet a good frnd.
Response: I say hi hello and exchange greetings and go our way.

Scenario2: I meet a person who is office acquaintance - with whom I havent exchanged any dialogues at work itself. But I know he exists and he knows I exists as well!
Response: Well...maybe I will smile and nod in acknowledgement (ie if the other smiles back :-) ).

Scenario3: I meet a person from work, with whom I may have talked a few times - but in meetings only, in group - not one on one.
Response: Umm...maybe a courteous hi, how are you etc. If nothing else comes to mind, then maybe ask question to which I already know the answer...like 'So you shopping here?' types :).

Scenario4: I meet a person I knew long long back - so long back that I know the face, but cant put a name to it!
Response: I would try to avoid the person - afraid if the 1st question that guy pops is - 'Do u remember me, my name'?. What would be more embarrasing is if that person does remember my name. lol !

Scenario5 (worst scenario): I meet a person who I knew long back and I never liked him/her when I knew them.
Response: Hmmm. I would try to avoid the alley that that person takes, for the most part. But I know what would eventually happen, given my luck with such things - I would take a turn and BAMMM come eye to eye with that sameeeeeeee person!!! In the back of my head I would be like - Shitttt, look the other way, look the other way! Get past him as fast and still as normallyyy as possible! :)))

There are various other scenarios possible, I am sure; but like its said of testing - a product can never be 100-percent-tested - I cant prepare myself in advance of all the possible scenarios. Besides, whats the fun in stage-prepraing a meeting, more impormptu it is, the more pleasant it is.
